Though it has had varying personnel, Icehouse was essentially a vehicle for the work of Australian Iva Davies. Davies formed the first version of the band under the name Flowers in 1980 and began scoring hits in Australia with the group's first single, "Can't Help Myself." (Icehouse was the name of Flowers' first album, but the group changed its name as it went international, to avoid conflicts with another band.) They first reached the U.S. charts in 1981 with "We Can Get Together" but did not score a substantial hit until 1988's "Crazy." This was followed by the Top Ten hit "Electric Blue," written by John Oates. ~ William Ruhlmann, Rovi
This song -- the biggest hit -- is my least favorite. Except for the killer sax solo it sounds way too much like Hall & Oates (bleh). Iva Davies is a musical genius whose work deserves to be better known. I can't stop playing the debut CD (Flowers) -- every song is simply devastating. And Iva is still composing and singing as well as ever.

Fell in LOVE with this band when I first heard Street Cafe back in the 80's. I've since worn out all my tapes and CD's of them - literally! I can't find any downloads or CD's to replace them! Why aren't they available??
Gifted writer, performer and vocalist. As a radio pro for decades, I've heard a million performers and Iva's voice & performances will remain one of my top 5 in all the world. He's created songs that will be my lifetime favorites. Unique and completely wonderful.
Why isn't the album "Icehouse" itself on the discography? It's one of the best over-all albums EVER. I also can't find it on CD anywhere. I've only heard a few songs from their later stuff, but not one of them compares to "Fat Man".
Great Southern Land is THE song by Icehouse. I've lived in the U.S for about 14 years and I still play it in my car - LOUD. People have NO IDEA who the band is >:)
SO much great music from Icehouse. NOT, however, available on iTunes???!!!I suggest a "campaign"--every time you're on iTunes, do a search for Icehouse; perhaps this will spur them to including among their collection.

I have couple LPs from these guys...they are worn out from all the play. Their self titled album Icehouse is awesome.

I adore Icehouse as much now as I did in the 80's!
It's always cold inside the icehouse, at least that's what the old ones say.
I'm rapidly becoming one of the old ones, and I remember when the album that featured that song came out, one of our local stations gave away a refrigerator (an "ice house" - meh).

Bill: Have you tried E-bay or the like? I've found a few CDs I wouldn't have otherwise gotten.
My favorite band of all times!! They were called Flowers early on. I had a friend that lived in Australia at the time and turned me on to them and I've loved them ever since. No matter who was in the line-up, the sound was pure magic. Can't get enough of "Primitive Man - wore out 3 CDs before getting an ipod ICEHOUSE RULES!!

I wish they would get their self titled album. I enjoyed that entire album. It's been 20 years since I listened to it but I still find myself humming Fat Man.
would like to get in touch with people who are fanatical about the first two albums. also fanatical about the bands "twenty-twenty" ( early LA power pop group) UFO (bluesy british hard rock group from the 70's) and early REM ( before Document album when they were alternative neo folk) anyone into these, leave me a contact on this Artist comment site and I'll get in touch with you. Peace
