The Ink Spots played a large role in pioneering the black vocal group-harmony genre, helping to pave the way for the doo wop explosion of the '50s. The quavering high tenor of Bill Kenny presaged hundreds of street-corner leads to come, and the sweet harmonies of Charlie Fuqua, Deek Watson, and bass Hoppy Jones (who died in 1944) backed him flawlessly.
Kenny's impeccable diction and Jones's deep drawl were both prominent on the Ink Spots' first smash on Decca in 1939, the sentimental "If I Didn't Care." From then through 1951, the group was seldom absent from the pop charts, topping the lists with "We Three (My Echo, My Shadow, and Me)" (1940), "I'm Making Believe" and "Into Each Life Some Rain Must Fall" (both in 1944), and "The Gypsy" and "To Each His Own" (both in 1946).
Watson eventually split to form his own group, the Brown Dots, and appeared in numerous low-budget film musicals, while Kenny attempted a solo career, notching a solo hit in 1951 with the uplifting "It Is No Secret." Countless groups masquerading as the Ink Spots have thrived across the nation since the '50s. ~ Bill Dahl, Rovi
The music is similar because that way it doesnt take away from the lyrics, but instead supports them haha. But maybe im crazy, I am responding to a year old comment.
i thank besthda to opening my mind into such amazing music

The ink spots are one of the best bands that have shared their honeyed voice I just find it amazing how many members they had and how their music was always very fluid my favorite would be Maybe
I first heard the Inkspots music when I was a child, during the 2nd World War. My family played the albums so much that after all these years I still remember the tunes and lyrics. What a trip to the past! I still love the stuff they and others of that era played.

Love The Ink Spots, have them on 78's records. The Gypsy my favorite song!
I wish that America would go back into a 50's like era. Where teenagers like myself liked music like this. Not some stupid rapping s**t.

They came on the scene the year I was born, 1939. No wonder I love them so much.

Some great music, although their use of the same musical formula with each and every song makes the specific songs less valuable, or at least that's how I feel. All the same, really great music; my favorite's It's All Over but the Crying.

I heard them in Fallout 3 as well but I was first exposed to them in Bioshock along with several other wonderful artists from the 40s and 50s.
the ink spots were two of my fathers favorite groups. thou he has now passed on i learned how to appreciate their music from him and will always remember him when i hear certain songs. so thanks for bringing back so many memories
Haha, I love the musical growth provided to us youth through an incredibly awesome and violent video game. The Ink Spots would be proud. Or maybe appalled?
ink spots, the mill's bros., king cole trio, andrew sisters, on and on. Can't be beat today even by the " America got talent winner." By the way, live in Ar. (Razorback country). Never heard of the last guy except lately.
