Jack Jones

A two-time Grammy winner in the early '60s, Jack Jones has made a fine living since, blending vocal standards from traditional pop with swinging renditions of contemporary pop and rock hits. Born in Los Angeles in 1938, Jones was the son of the romantic lead actor and recording artist Allan Jones (who had a hit with "The Donkey Serenade") and actress Irene Hervey. He began studying the vocal arts in high school, and after graduation joined his father's successful act on the nightclub circuit. Jack left less than a year later, determined to make it on his own, and began playing small clubs around the country.

Several years after forging his independence, Jack Jones was spotted in San Francisco and signed to Kapp Records in 1961. Though he was called into the army soon after, he managed to record the single "Lollipops and Roses," a moderate 1962 hit which earned him a Grammy for Best Performance by a Male Singer. Jones earned several other awards during the mid-'60s, including another Grammy for his best-known hit, the Burt Bacharach-Hal David chestnut "Wives and Lovers." Though he only recorded one more single that performed as well, 1965's "The Race Is On," Jones became a successful LP seller, touring artist (especially in Great Britain), and occasional television performer. He moved to RCA Records in 1967, and began to add to his repertoire rock songs such as "Light My Fire" and "I Think It's Gonna Rain Today." Jack Jones also mounted a successful act in Las Vegas during the 1980s and '90s. ~ John Bush

Jack might be the best voice who's name you don't remember. Pipes rival the pack. And he always stood his ground with big brass backup. Only one question... Where's the Love Boat?!?

Attended a Jones show at South Point Las Vegas on 8/25/2012. In the audience were Mel Tormes' daughter and Vera Goulet which of course Jack properly introduced. About Jack....Wow does he still have the voice. Jones is so powerful of a vocalist you are mesmerized by this gift as well as his classy stage presence. He was so kind to walk amoung the audience (Walked around the complete showroom) in a meet and greet style. He rocks with a few great musicians who are so talented. Jack Jones looks fabu

for ireng466--If you want to find SHE by Jack Jones, you have to find the Album--Write me a Love Song, Charlie by Jack Jones. He sings 9 of Charles Aznavour's songs and 2 others. I got the Album years ago on vinyl; and in the early 2000's found the CD from Universal CD--it was done in Japan, but he sings it in English; and I listen to it constantly.

Caught Jack at the Skye Restaurant in Peoria, AZ. early this year. The man can still sing beautifully. Can hold a note and sing a phrase as long as ever even at 72. He put on a great show.....

I saw Jack Jones perform live a couple of times with a big band at the Blue Room in New Orleans in the mid-1970s. He had already shifted away from his early sappy material into standards, but he was especially good with jazz. His version of God Bless The Child was memorable. His best song, in my opinion, was L.A. Breakdown in 1969. It's impossible to find.

Tastefully yours,
Tom Fitzmorris

OK, let's talk about the elephant in the room: He's probably best known -- at least his voice is best known -- for singing the theme to "The Love Boat," which not only played for years on TV in syndication, but is played incessantly aboard Princess cruise ships. That said, Jack Jones has a wonderful voice and easy manner, and probably deserved an even bigger career.

My fondest christmas memories from the late 60's include Jack Jones 'White Christmas" album. The favorite played while decorating the Christmas Tree with my 2 sisters. I keep looking for a re-release for this classic. It is very hard to find. Have a cassette tape found around 15 years ago in a drugstore bin. Would love to hear this on cd.
