James Darren

Even more than the typical teen idol, James Darren's roots in authentic rock & roll were tenuous. Darren began recording for Colpix in the late '50s at the beginning of a screen career that saw him star in numerous films, most notably Gidget. More at home with standard MOR, show tune-like material than rock, and not much of a singer in any case, Darren was nonetheless marketed as a pop/rock performer to his predominantly young female constituency. He ran off quite a few novelty-tinged hit singles in the early '60s, of which "Goodbye Cruel World," which made number three, was the biggest and best. Top Brill Building pop songwriters -- including the Goffin-King, Mann-Weil, and Pomus-Shuman teams, as well as Bob Crewe, Gloria Shayne, and Howard Greenfield -- gave Darren material, albeit material that was well below their usual standards. He recorded quite a bit after his early-'60s heyday, reaching the Top 40 in 1967 with "All" and charting as late as 1977 with "You Take My Heart Away." During the '90s, Darren co-starred on the Star Trek spin-off Deep Space Nine as hologram crooner Vic Fontaine, reprising songs from the series on the 1999 album This One's From the Heart. ~ Richie Unterberger, Rovi

The Time Tunnel ! A great show. I believe Darren has also been doing some conducting with symphony orchestras the last few years.

Who is the reviewer??? He has no clue what he is talking about. And why aren't most of his newer stuff available on Pandora - albums This One's from the Heart and Because of You I enjoy some of the 50's and 60's song I am hearing on this channel but was really looking for the crooner songs like he sang on DS9
I remember when I was a young teenager being so much in love with James Darren listening to his music and watching the Gidget movies and today my feelings are the same, I still listen to his music and watch his movies. He is so handsome and sexy.

In the bio they mention 1999 album This One's From the Heart, so why is this album not a part of the selected music available on Pandora?
I've always been a fan of James Darren. I still get butterflies in my stomach when I see pictures of him or his acting and singing in the many movies he starred in. A True Classy Gentleman! Some of these young whippersnapp e r s need to take some lessons.
Excellent singer and actor

His work on DS9 was excellent. It's a shame he never released those songs. The arrangements used on the show really showcased his voice.
I love all the Gidget movies! Gidget is the best. OH MOONDOGGIE! I had such a crush on him when I was a young teenager.
