Jason Becker

Jason Becker is an American hard rock guitarist who formed the band Cacophony in the late '80s with fellow guitarist Marty Friedman and recorded two albums with it, Speed Metal Symphony (1987) and Go Off! (1988). He made the instrumental solo album Perpetual Burn in 1988. In 1989, he left Cacophony and was hired by David Lee Roth to replace Steve Vai in his backup band, appearing on the album A Little Ain't Enough (1991). Shortly after he joined Roth's band, however, he was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), better known as Lou Gehrig's disease, a rare degenerative illness that causes paralysis. Nevertheless, he succeeded in completing a second solo album, Perspective, released on his own label in 1996. Raspberry Jams, an album of demos, followed in 1999, and in 2001, through the intercession of Eddie Van Halen, Perspective was given major-label release on Warner Bros. Records. ~ William Ruhlmann

Fukking horrible. zero musicality. 100% posturing cliche.

Jason Becker and Shawn Lane were cut from the same rock of MUSICAL GENIUS. Both a special gift to the worlds eardrums. Such incredible inspiration. Love all the comments of Jason's continuing support & influence.

Jason is still an amazing musician! Hopefully, one day there will be a cure for ALS!

They left out in his bio that he is still alive and only has the use of his eyes but still makes music. So inspiring and so awesome!

Amazing man, amazing guitarist!

Thank you Jason Becker for being such a great man

Great to see all the positive comments and support for the amazingly talented, and inspirationa l , Jason Becker. ANYONE that would publicly disrespect someone struggling with a degenerative illness is a sad excuse for a human. Jason is still here, and STILL making music, in spite of the tremendous challenges he faces daily. What are you doing @stevenpatri c k d ? What have you done? I suspect you only talk/post about guitar, because if you EVER played one, I doubt you'd dis JB. Envious?
Report as inappropriate
Oh and Becker is absolutely amazing right up there with the best

Patrickd or whatever your stupid name is, I seen a bad comment to wears you, and I just had to find it and I'm going to tell you the unscensored way. You should probably look in the mirror and realize your a compete scumbag who if makes ridiculous comments like such, should either right a very thoughtful apology to all handicapped, or just do the world a favor and off yourself you sidistic pathetic loser!!!!

Steven Patrickd is a dumb jackass!

I am not a guitar player (other than air!!) but have a deep, deep appreciation for guitarists. Vai, Cooley, Becker, Gilbert, Petrucci, Satriani, Morse, Malmsteen and the list goes on and on and on. I do not have the knowledge or skill to pick the best of all of them....they are all the best. as far as I am concerned. Mr. Stevenpatric k d ' s statement about Becker's disability sounds like a rather uninformed, unenlightene d southern gentleman's approach to people who face wicked, wicked challenge

Great to see Becker here!

stevenpatric k d , you're a freaking idiot. Just because the guy can't play anymore doesn't mean that he can't continue to write music. You really show your ignorance with comments like that.

jason becker has music in his soul, so i don't think we need to worry about him coming up with anything that is stupid, mr stevenpatric k d .

okay f**kin guy is now handicapped! ! wouldnt ask a one armed drummer to play a solo right !!!just realize everything he does from here to now will be STUPID !!!!!

I've been listening to Jason Becker since the early 90s when I picked up a Guitar mag with him on the cover. The thing that most people don't realize is that this guy never had any formal training. To be playing classical shred at age 16 at the level he had gotten to, was and still is un-freaking- b e l i e v a b l e . Check out the dvd if you get a chance, it's heartbreakin g .

the song Perpetual Burn is not only 11 outta 10, but thee craziest song to jam to on lead
Report as inappropriate
Woah Emmett Jason's on a way higher composition level than yngwie or Vinnie. Remember music isn't about how fast you can push it out. Its about the feeling and how you choose to express them in melody and harmony. Playing fast just shows you've wasted endless time on sounding like yngwie etc. Jason becker is on the level of bach Paganini and Mozart. Something nobody of his or our time has done. My suggestion to everyone is listen to more jb. True God of music.

Jason Becker deserves a much more detailed bio. Make it happen Pandora!

If we could only hear what he is hearing in his head. We would prob. not even begin to comprehend it all. AWSOME INSPIRATION.
Report as inappropriate
Not on the level with Yngwie or Vinnie Moore, but freakin awesome just the same.
Report as inappropriate
@lgoudikian he double tracked almost every one of his songs, other than the solos. In my opinion Jason is the most talented musician of the 20th century, his music both inspires me and makes me want to give up playing guitar! (since I will never come close to his level of talent)
Report as inappropriate
not quite Yngwie but pretty f**king good.......

This is pretty mind-blowing . Lot of doubling. Not sure if that's an effect or double-track i n g . Very creative music.
