Independently minded and adhering to the old-school D.I.Y. punk mentality, West Coast punk-pop trio Jawbreaker's street-smart -- yet poetic -- lyrics, spirited musicality, and marathon live shows put them a cut above contemporaries like Green Day and blink-182. After a series of EPs and singles, guitarist/singer Blake Schwarzenbach, bassist Chris Bauermeister, and drummer Adam Pfahler released the band's debut album, Unfun, in 1989. Independent label San Francisco Tupelo/Communion signed the group the following year, releasing Bivouac in 1991 and their breakthrough record, 24 Hour Revenge Therapy, in 1993.
As 1995 saw the first in a three-record deal with DGC, fans were split over the band's newfound success and move to a major label. But Jawbreaker were undeterred, releasing the influential Dear You, a powerhouse collection of punk, grunge, and emo that paved the way for groups like Jimmy Eat World and Dashboard Confessional. Sadly, the group disbanded in the late-'90s, leaving 2002's Etc., a collection of all of the group's non-album material, as their last will and testament. Dear You was reissued by Blackball in 2004. ~ James Christopher Monger, Rovi
One of my favorite SF/Oakland bands from the 90's is starting to become popular with hipsters. Actually, with this I now can say most of teen life experience should now be reclassified hipster right down to my old 5&Dime UFO.
Saw them when i was 15 at the Troc in phl...only really planned to go because Samiam was headlining. Thank god i did cuz they broke up before touring again....my love affair with this band started at that show.
fukkin kiss the bottle just came on @ 5am. so many years i've been listening to this song, and it's still one of the top 5 songs i've ever heard. massive massive band with a massive catalog of songs. i really wish they'd get back together. we need to pile on their facebook page and make it happen.
This is kind of a garbage band. Pop-punk as a whole is totally s**tty. The only thing that comes close to saving this band is their lyrics. Everything else is dumb.
Actually Thorn of Life was short lived, and over. Check out the forgetters, it's black and a new couple of people, the music is raw like old jawbreaker, and the lyrics are just as poignant as ever
LLLLLLLLLLLLoooooooooooooooovvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Jawbreaker. I soooo agree with Kristen; Very early GD is on par but blink-182 was sooo much later to the game and never had the intensity of lyrical genius of one Blake Schwartenbach. WTF.

How dare you put Blink 182 (early Greenday ok) in Jawabreaker's world!
For those who haven't heard yet, Blake has a new band - Thorns of Life. No recorded music yet, just concerts in the San Diego and LA area. YOu can find them on YouTube if you aren't so able to see them live. Much more Jawbreaker like than JTB. Awesome stuff!
What an awesome band. Blake writes such good songs. Got to see Jets to Brazil live. I'll never forget it! P.S. If your under 25 yrs. old, don't comment on jawbreaker, just listen and absorb.
