Jerry Goldsmith

For over four decades, Jerry Goldsmith ranked among the film and television industry's most highly-regarded and prolific composers; at the peak of his activity during the 1960s, he was estimated to have scored an average of about six films annually. Born in Los Angeles on February 10, 1929, Goldsmith studied music at the University of South Carolina, and after accepting a job as an office clerk at CBS television later graduated to the network's music department in 1950. There he composed themes for series including Gunsmoke, Perry Mason, Have Gun Will Travel, The Twilight Zone and The Man from U.N.C.L.E. before turning to film in 1957, debuting with the score to Black Patch. Under the tutelage of the great Alfred Newman, Goldsmith rose to prominence with 1962's Lonely Are the Brave, and subsequently emerged as one of Hollywood's most prolific composers. Among his credits were such diverse offerings as Patton, Planet of the Apes, Seconds, Chinatown, Poltergeist and Rambo: First Blood Part II; while nominated for over a dozen Academy Awards, Goldsmith won only one, for 1976's The Omen. Additionally, he regularly toured concert halls, performing his music and conducting the likes of the San Diego Symphony and Britain's Royal Philharmonic. ~ Jason Ankeny, Rovi

Don't read this because it actually works. You will be kissed on the nearest Friday by the love of your life. Tomorrow will be the best day of your life. However if you don't post this you will die in 2 days. Now you started reading this so don't stop. This is so scary put this on at least 5 songs in the next 143 minutes. When done press f6 and your lovers name will appear on the screen in big letters this is so scary because it works

Was? That little word prompted me to search and find that the master of so many musical themes had died, back in 2004. Rest in peace, Mr. Goldsmith.

Nice stuff, but somehow the old masters like Beethoven, Bach, Mozart, & Tchaikovsky rule. All you fans here, do you ever listen to the oldies but goodies like Schubert, Chopin, even Leonard Bernstein? (Westside Story based on guess what? Romeo + Juliet! ) How about Andrew L. Weber (Cats and Fantom of the Opera). That spaghetti western cat that did The Good, Bad, and Ugly, Ennio C. Some Italian name, awesome haunting melodies!

john.alexand e r 4 , this is billed correctly. This IS the theme from Star Trek: The Motion Picture. A slightly different version is used in the Star Trek: The Next Generation television series.

The number billed here as the theme to Star Trek 1 (The Motion Picture) is, in fact, that for Star Trek: The Next Generation.. .

John Williams, upon Jerry's passing, said We used to call him Gorgeous, because his music had a chameleon-li k e quality - perfectly fit the mood of the movie, and you really couldn't tell who wrote it - no characterist i c / i d e n t i f y i n g chords or instrumentat i o n (I love them, but I can spot a Williams or Zimmer score within a measure!).

When origianlly made Maestro Goldsmith did the score for "Legend," and the studio forced Ridley Scott to dump it in favor of Tangerine Dream; in all European releases, however, it had Goldsmith's original...I have this OST on LP, ande it is very rare to hear it in this country, indeed.
