This song is about a homeless man.
1971 best
Good song
1970 saw jtull an 17 yr old young man seeking a life path... What an introduction to live music ... And it's only the giving... That makes you what you are...
Such a sophisticate d song! So many phases and yet they connect musically masterfully! Lyrics are second to none!
I saw him performing at national park in staten island, NY.....exele n t !
Saw JT @ The Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, NY in 73, dam good concert....1 2 rows from the stage...had a very good buzz that night too....out of this world performance. . . . .
Pam Tighe and Chris Mac Part land do you to remember the contcert
First Jethro Tull song I ever heard. Doesn't define their style at all.

Enjoy the classics.ian anderson.
Have attended 5 Tull concerts telling My age abit, Best live performance you will see. Friends of mine , who really were not into Tull, said it was the best they seen. The 70s had some Damn good concert banda.
B it has to have been the best era. The songs are still continually played. I like the saying I may be old but I got to see the best bands.
They say that Jimmy Page came into the studio when they were doing the solo.
Folk?
OK... Rev. Rob is actually right on this one. Some of his comments are a bit of a stretch, but I have heard Aqualung described as anti-religio n , pro-spiritua l i t y (man creating his own god, etc.). Great album!
Got to see them play the album in its entirety in 75. It is a concept album that tells the story of man creating his own god in all the things we covet and live for apart from God Almighty. The album liner has a 9 verse prayer that defines the concept in some capacity. Its a classic and a must own for your collection. God Bless us all, Rev Rob
The song is sung from the point of view of a social worker or someone like that, who knows him well and sees him frequently.
these lyrics re incorrect
Interesting that Jethro Tull, noted for Ian Anderson's flute playing, has it's biggest hit here with no flute solo whatsoever. Tull, my very first concert in 1973, and second (only to Yes) favorite band ever since.
Amen to that, "B"!
@Richard Robbins: I feel sorry for young people these days, too. I wasn't alive in 1971, but a large portion of the music I listen to is from that era. I have repeatedly said that the best music was made before I was born. Music now just isn't the same. Luckily the old stuff is still around!
I first heard this on my brothers 8-track as well........
Its hard to believe that I first heard this tune almost 40 yrs ago- My brother had this album on 8 TRACK - HA HA HA HA - what an excellent time for music 1971 - 1972 - I feel sorry for young people these days they dont and will not have anything this rich to come out of contemporary music - right now its all about fashion and who can talk the fastest BS. no one questions anything the way these and other artist did around this time (listen to- ten years after) - everyone is a dollar sign thats wh

God I loved this song as a kid. Its one of the few songs that has added a new line to my vocabulary that I use regularly: Feeling like a dead duck. Its such a great line.
