Named in honor of the legendary abolitionist, reggae unit John Brown's Body was led by singer/guitarist Kevin Kinsella, a longtime fan of Caribbean music who formed the group Tribulations while attending college in Boston in 1989. Three years later they took top honors in the annual Yamaha Soundcheck contest, touring Japan as a result; in 1993 Tribulations also recorded in Jamaica, releasing the LPs The Gate and Daddy Good Pieces before disbanding. Striving for a more organic roots reggae sound, Kinsella founded John Brown's Body in 1995 with bassist Joshua Neuman, keyboardist Sam Godin, trumpeter Paul Merrill, saxophonist Lee Hamilton, backing vocalist Elliot Martin and drummer Tommy Benedetti; debuting in 1997 with All Time, the outfit signed to Shanachie to issue the follow-up Among Them two years later. This Day followed in early 2000. ~ Jason Ankeny, Rovi
JBB is iconic American rootz/reggae/dub, Elliot has a vision, and he is taking the band to great places!! always will love the old stuff but the new Dub stuff and the upcoming full length album (heard some unreleased songs live recently) are going to be MONEY!!! you guys just wait! BYAH!!
not the same without kevin!!! loved seeing jbb in small bars like winstons in ocean beach ca !!!!!!!! good times for sure!! also not the same without c- money and alex !!!!
I like JBB with or without Kevin Kinsella, even though I thought his material was better. That's okay, cause I got 10ft now. Search Valiant Thor Dub on Youtube for a similar sound

I will be hitting cervantes friday and the fox in boulder saturaday, JBB is sick!!! if you like ska, or punk w/ horns but don't listen to much reggae this band for you!!!
I disagree with you Dawn...I think JBB is much better with out the fake jamaican singer. Rock on Eliott!! JBB has only gotten better since Kevin left. We love you JBB!!!
I can't believe I didn't go to their show in Ft. Collins, Colorado last month. I really missed out. I won't miss out next time they are near.

Best, most uplifting reggae out of America... ever? Probably. Original singer/songwriter Kevin Kinsella is in Bob Marley/ Burning Spear country as far as beautiful and lasting message lyrics over sweet reggae sound. "God has many names... don't you judge no one according to the name they choose..." Current singer Elliot Martin still holding it down strong though. Bass lines to melt your soul... Yes.
