This is not the original, my blunt friend. The original is by Nine Inch Nails. Johnny Cash covered it beautifully, as he did with other modern songs such as Rusty Cage (Soundgarden).
YOU PUNKASSES DON'T KNOW PASSION AND EMOTION IN A SONG.THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST POWERFUL COVERS I HAVE EVER HEARD.I WAS ABSOLUTELY DRAINED THE FIRST TIME I HEARD IT.
Trent Reznor said, after hearing the Cash version of his song, "the song wasn't his anymore". I tend to agree. Although I still love the original, there is something about this Cash version that is just too emotionally powerful. One of those rare instances where the cover betters the original.
Trent Reznor's version is more emotional, both the way it is sung and the guitar that is sounds slightly flat. Maybe because I heard his version first.
Absolutely wonderful cover. The video gives me chills!

People thinking it must have been written by Johnny Cash is a compliment to Trent IMO. Not that Trent is a bad song writer, just that Johnny is a great song writer.

I prefer the NIN version but it can't be denied that this is a truly great remake. I hate people who think Cash wrote this and NIN covered it though. Get your f**kin' facts straight before you talk about s**t you know nothing about. Stupid ignorant people...
