Justin Hayward And John Lodge

The Moody Blues began a five-year hiatus in 1973, and one of the first results was the Hayward/Lodge team-up known as the Blue Jays. The pairing was logical -- Hayward and Lodge's joining the group in 1966 had precipitated the change in their sound and helped put them on the path to the psychedelic/romantic rock that made the band a success. Along with Mike Pinder, they were the principal songwriters in the band and each had a solid record of commercial songs and hit singles, with Hayward (author of "Tuesday Afternoon" and "Nights in White Satin") having the advantage.

The duo didn't last long, just enough for one LP and a follow-up single ("Blue Guitar") that involved the members of 10cc as their support band. Their sound was, naturally, close to that of the Moody Blues, with less of an emphasis on mysticism and more of the personal and romantic in their repertory. They and the Blue Jays album were far and away the most successful of the hiatus activities by the group members. ~ Bruce Eder

My name is Jim Simcox , not Fish Furniture. But you can find me there most of the time if I'm not home in the garden listening to the Moodies.

I became a Moody Blues fan first time I heard Nights in White Satan. Their lyrics were true poetry. The music not difficult but classy. Justin certainly became the leading member, though Ray Thomas, John lodge,Graham Edge & Mike Pinder each contributed great lyrics & musical talent. I followed each members solos. Blue Jays will always be one of my very favorite. Thank you guys for making it possible to play your music, fall into a dream, and awake in a better state of mind.

like old moodys but I love blue guitar…..wow you delivered newspapers to justin's grandmother where he lived…very cool

I seem to remember Justin's early gigs with "All Things Bright" in Swindon - early 60 's and the passion was there. I delivered his Grandma's newspapers - where he lived. Good Times. Last saw the Moodys play in Daytona Beach about '98 - tight & true with the full orchestral production - full delivery on the promise. Wish I could have experienced Floyd the same way, but that's another story.

Brings back great memories!

I consider this album to the true eighth album of the core Moodies.

Seems to be a bit of dislike for Classic Blue, here....Not all Moodies here. Single album by Justin alone. Still very easy to listen to!

Me and You CB
I've been a Moodies since 1967 and they just get better and better ,RRHOF just don't know good music when they hear it ,for 40 plus years should say something of it's self look around and see what last that long that speck for it's self........ . . . . . . .

The RRHOF are a bunch of snobs who probably would have voted to keep Led Zeppelin out except for the fact that it would have made made them a complete laughing-sto c k .
Report as inappropriate
Who cares what the RRHOF thinks? I have been a Moodies fan since 1970 when I heard The Story in Your Eyes on AM radio, and soon thereafter bought all their albums. However, with the exception of
Classic Blue, and a very few of their later sons, I never liked anything after Octave. Blue Jays is one of my top favorites. Justin's and John's voices are among the very best of rock singers.

RRHOF means nothing to the Moody Blues. It is only important to the fans. The RRHOF is a joke. This is the greatest band of all time.

Love Justin and the Moodies. However, Classic Blue did not contain Moody Blues songs - it contained classics by other artists such as Only God Knows, Stairway to Heaven and Vincent.
