Finland's Kalmah specializes in a high velocity, classically influenced brand of European death metal similar to that of extreme metal bands like Cradle of Filth and Children of Bodom. The quintet formed in the autumn of 1999 following the demise of its first incarnation, Ancestor. In less than a year after its birth, Kalmah was signed by Spikefarm Records, a division of the Finnish label Spinefarm. In the fall of 2000, the band recorded its debut album for the label at Tico-Tico studios, a favorite of fellow countrymen Sentenced and Amorphis. The result, Swamplord, is an aggressive, twin guitar-based variation on death metal whose atmosphere is often heightened by ethereal keyboards. Century Media Records picked up Swamplord for North American distribution, and the record was released in 2001. Another year would go by before They Will Return, their second album, would see the light of day in America. ~ Andy Hinds, Rovi
Their last album sucked. Hope they release something new, soon.

Uhg, makes me so sad that this amazing band is grouped with total garbage like COB. Need to add Dark Tranquility to this station and take out the cob trash.
ok so the more i listen the more i like--they are about as hardcore as i can take--but tempored with the melody it is a great package. wish the melody was a little more than the agression...kind of like in flames...but i still really like them.
I've only heard a couple songs but I love them. For The Revolution is probably my favorite so far. Pretty cool! I'm not a big fan of screamo-sounding music (which I am not saying this is screamo, you derp) but this has just enough growl/screaming that it isn't too overpowering for the rest of the music, imo. <3 <3 <3

This has got to be one of the greatest metal bands of all time. Their s**t is so beautifully written.

discovered this band in august, idmiadtly fell in love. Glad somehow, i ran into their first song "hades" that will forevor be my favorite song by them :)
The best metal is either black, death, dark, or extreme metal. must be Fast, brutal, no repetition, no clean vocals, eerie, heavy, fast, fast, fast, dark, and scary. think 1349, marduk, dark funeral, dissection, old cradle, old to mid dimmu, korihor, behexen, hecate enthroned and funeral mist to name a few. thanks
i know Kalmah is similar to C.O.B. but to me is much faster, technical, heavier, darker, and vocals are much more harsh. COB vocals are more clean and heavy metal, Kalmah are death growls
