Karl Jenkins

Composer, arranger, keyboardist and woodwinds player Karl Jenkins fell in with the London jazz scene of the late '60s while studying at the Royal Academy of Music. Prior to spending over a decade in the last incarnations of Soft Machine, he spent time in a number of jazz groups, along with the Graham Collier Band and Nucleus; he also leant his services to recording sessions and tours for PJ Proby and Scott Walker.

Along with John Marshall, the Welshman navigated Soft Machine through most of the '70s, which saw the group developing their sound significantly away from their earlier years. After the band decided to call it quits, Jenkins turned to film, TV, theater, and orchestra work. In the '90s, he spearheaded Adiemus, a studio project that released a series acclaimed ethno-classical discs. He has recorded under his own name as well, including 1998's Imagined Oceans. ~ Andy Kellman, Rovi

i think it was in brother bear
They're not speaking anything. According to the liner notes, Karl Jenkins prefers vocalese to actual language. :)
What language are they speaking?
@Joseph Cody Duffy yeah it sounds like it, but its not lol gorgeous music
Adiamus.... gorgeous.... .
when i closed my eyes, this song took me somewhere far far away...a place i have never been, a place i would like to call my home.

Its so beautiful :)
this song adiamus wasn't in avatar its my fav' movie
I think it was in avatar...
Have I heard this music in a movie? It seems so. Love it, it's so dynamic and peaceful at the same time.
If they had a two thumbs up option, I would have selected that. It's like Enya, plus some fabricated language. Soothing.
Better than most music!

Wow! I stumbled upon this song Adiemus back in 2000 and my husband and I made this our wedding song (2001). This song is what I walked down the aisle to become one with the man who desired me then and now. All of our children know this song and it brings about peace when it is on. Absolutely love it!!!!

I didn't realize this is the guy that wrote Palladio that Escala covered. I only mention it because his stations tend to play that song as well and its a pretty interesting piece of trivia. Always just figured Palladio was classical.
One of my favorite songs of all time!
pure delight... Takes me flying a open tall grass field with trees in the distance blowing in the wind... Peaceful and soul moving....ma k e s me levitate.... . . .

love love love this song! I only wish that it hadn't ruined my worldbeat station. I hate it when you like one song and then the entire station begins to head in that musical direction instead of remaining diverse.
The beginning instrumental part of Saint Declan's Drone sounds VERY Celtic. Most of the instrumental music in this song sounds Celtic. :)

Miriam Stockley did the voices.

THe voice is so sweat that i find myself swimming until the song end. Perfect ...Just perfect
Karl Jenkins writes, like Lisa Gerrard, in vocalese. It's akin to scatting in jazz.

Taggartd: Interesting that they'd pick "Saint Declan's Drone" for their theme song...I can see the original "Adiemus" song that was popular on the first "Pure Moods" album (also on "Songs of Sanctuary"), but "Saint Declan's Drone"? Odd...

this used to be Delta Airline's theme song. When I was a road warrior back in the late 90's, I unfortunatel y learned to dread this song because I heard it repeated nonstop for sometimes hours so many times while on a plane trapped on a runway or sitting at a gate. I hated having that connection with the song, because it truly is beautiful.
The vocalist (main and backing vocals) is Miriam Stockley. She is a great vocalist and makes her own sounds appear to be a language. Good stuff.......
