Karla Bonoff

Singer/songwriter Karla Bonoff grew up in Los Angeles and briefly attended UCLA. Emerging from the Monday night hootenanny scene at the Troubadour nightclub, she was a member of Bryndle, a folk-rock group also featuring Wendy Waldman, Andrew Gold, and Kenny Edwards, that formed in 1969, signed to A&M, and cut an album that was never released. Edwards, a former member of the Stone Poneys (a band featuring Linda Ronstadt), and Gold were later part of Ronstadt's backing band, and they brought Bonoff to her attention. Ronstadt recorded three of Bonoff's songs on her 1976 album, Hasten Down the Wind, leading to a recording contract for Bonoff and the release of three albums on Columbia Records, the last of which, Wild Heart of the Young (1982), featured the Top 40 hit "Personally." Bonoff worked on movie soundtracks during the '80s, notably on Footloose (1984) and About Last Night (1986). She released her fourth album, New World, in 1988. ~ William Ruhlmann, Rovi

We just saw Karla at the Barns at Wolf Trap, Vienna, VA, a lovely night listening to her sing sweetly, play splendidly and share many musical memories. Warm heartfelt lyrics. Loved Nina's fine and understated accompanimen t on the Strat as well.

A wonderful talent...wri t i n g songs that speak to our hearts. Many have profited from her songs and when she finally began recording those hits herself I was so impressed with the sweet sound of her voice. I hope to see her in concert someday, as I have missed that thus far. I love her sound, lyrics, and her contribution to music. Thanks Carla for all the lovely music!

My wife and I went to see Karla at the 1129 restaurant in Santa Barbara, CA about 25 years ago. It was a small venue and we were up close to her on the small stage. It was awesome! She was excellent, as usual. We've loved her before that night and ever since. I'm living in Oregon now and my wife died earlier this year. I wish I had the opportunity to see her in Oregon. She always held a special place in our hearts.

I took my mom to see her at The Arc in Ann Arbor, Mich. She stayed afterward and signed autographs and even talked a few minutes with my my mother, who listened to her music to help get through her divorce in the 1970's. Great concert.

Loved her since the 80's. Saw her for the first time a few years ago in a small theater in Sellersville , PA. Amazing show even if I had to go alone because no else appreciates her talent. Signed CD's after an awesome show where she sang all my favorites and was funny, talkative and gracious. Stayed till she spoke with everyone. Waiting for her to come back.

About eight years ago I ran a little theatre and finally got to book Karla and Kenny after loving her stuff for decades. The audience hung on every word all night. Outstanding. And her music was frequently used in "The Wonder Years" TV series which gave a whole new meaning to it. Karla is a magical artist.

Saw her a few years ago in Williamsburg , VA of all places and she was exceptional on the grand piano and guitar. Bryndle CD's are available on the Karla web site and worth having just because she sounds even better with Wendy, Kenny, and Andrew.

I adore Karla. Happened to see her in concert in the late 80's in Boulder. Best concert ever - magical - stage effects not necessary!

She's one of my favorite singer/songw r i t e r s . She sings her own songs better than anybody else and deserves to be more popular. It's sad that she hasn't released more albums.
