King Crimson

If there is one group that embodies both the best and the worst aspects of progressive rock (from the standpoints of both supporters and detractors), it is King Crimson. During its first five years of existence from 1969 through 1974, in a variety of different lineups, this band led by guitar/Mellotron virtuoso Robert Fripp broke lots of new ground in prog rock, stretching both the language and structure of the music into realms of jazz and classical. Somehow, the group's challenging debut album, In the Court of the Crimson King, caught the public's collective ear at the right moment and hit number five in England. ~ Bruce Eder, Rovi

A review written by a Bangles fan?
the worst aspects of prog rock? What a bumpklin. KC rules
Listening to Prince Rupert Awakes from LIZARDS album as I write this. Just brilliant. There is something about this early (first) KC lineup that captures the spirit or essence of old world Europe, something medieval about their sound. Almost imagine that there was a tron in King Henry VIII's court....:-) Still love listening to these first four albums. If you only know KC from their somewhat (IMHO..) bombastic THRAK era, you might want to search out the earlier material.

Pandora does not write these bio's, Rovi does. Good luck complaining to them. We all know some of their writers are better than others. King Crimson is the King.
There should be a much better bio. Just the great musician lineups over the years of endurance alone.
This is a very, less than basic bio. Ugh I am not an expert in Prog Rock but I do know that many of my favorite groups (Yes, ELP and Pink Floyd) were influenced by or helped to shape, the ground breaking sound that KC created in the Court of the Crimson King. I think the biggest obstacle for them was trying to top the Court
This is my first time checking out the bio and I too was unimpressed. Get it together Pandora :)
OK, Lets see... Greg Lake, John Wetton, Adrian Belew, and Tony Levin have played in Crimson, just to name a few. Then there's Bill Bruford, arguably one of the top two or three drummers of all time, who left Yes at the height of their popularity to join King Crimson; such was their appeal to truly talented musicians. Prog, by definition, is about stretching the parameters of music and KC has always been the best at that. Great, great band. Single worst bio I've ever encountered on Pandora.

I also join mocking this 'review'. Pandora team, please choose proper one, thanks.
Great song! King Crimson still ahead of their time....
@jsahol Too Funny !

Well, really, it's one of the worst bio I've read on pandora !
U think THIS is bad? They claimed that Beyonce wrote PURPLE HAZE!
dbibrick
They where the best and the worst ? I turn the page and its blank , you can't leave me hangin like that !!! These guys where great.
laughable excuse for a bio
Cant we listen the whole album ?
Lame outright insulting bio

Bruce Eder Bio for J.S. Bach:

He was this guy who played the organ and wrote a bunch of church music when it was popular. For some reason, his really caught on and was popular for a while. You hardly ever hear him on Top 40 radio anymore.

I have to jump on the bio bashing wagon, too. This is ridiculously bad when considering what Fripp and the many iterations of KC brought to the world of music in our generation. Fortunately, anyone listening to Pandora, hearing a KC piece and wanting to learn more, has ample opportunity to find more on wikipedia as well as Amazon, YouTube, and the entire web. Then they can come back to Pandora, read this bio again, and join us in exposing it.

Never mind the bollocks, here's King Crimson

A little bit better biography than the above crap from Rovi (btw, Pandora does not write the bios, they outsource them)
If you ever went to college, and missed doing upside down codeine bong hits with shots of 110 proof Venezuelan rum, at 7AM with the sun rising, to 21st Century Schizoid Man, then you missed out on one of the most amazing moments in life.

Therefore, you probably became a bit of a regret-ridde n , frustrated poser. /douche Then, Pandora hired you to write a review/bio of King Crimson.
It used to be an even worse and much longer review.
Crazy shyt! Love it. Don't know what the bio is talkin about. Sounds like these guys went under the radar. Unfortunate.
evremmy
Quite possibly that this is the worst constructed bio on all of Pandora. Shame on the author for having lost his ears.
lineaweaver
Awfully short shrift for a band that's been around since the late sixties, and even more insulting to Robert Fripp who has a broadly eclectic oeuvre both with and outside of the band. It's as though Bruce did a quick Wikepedia search and then watered it down. He clearly has no liking for KC, if any personal knowledge at all.
milosdad
Always forget Greg Lake was in this band. Not music I bring out regularly but I listen to them nonetheless. Created and mastered a genre before it became a cliche.

Bobdirt is right. C'mon man KC is iconic! Not top 40! But defined our generation
The Court Of The Crimson King Is 1 Cool Song & Like Freebird It's Also A Jam. It's Really Cool Especailly The Part A bout The Dancing Puppets!.

Right, I have read better bio's on Amazon. Pandora, aren't you better? Describe the members and their profound influence on music today (21st century!!!). King Crimson was extraordinar y .

Thanks for the bio snippets in the comments (esp. Rage Cage). Was curious and now feel like I know more. WIll check out more of their music for sure.

Had the pleasure of seeing King Crimson in 1972 on my 20th Birthday, The Islands Tour. This band has always pushed the envelope to be years ahead of the music scene. Musicians in the band are always those at the top of the music profession. Can't wait for the next Robert to put his next group together to amaze the music scene.
When one looks at the list of 'Similar Artists just above here, it becomes apparent that there are none. In the Court was w/o peer at the time and has none now.
Pandora pls fix the bio
Court of the Crimson King gives me goose bumps, very talented band.
Steve Brittenham, Right on, well said
Arguably, I suppose, one could say the Progressive Rock period then was just the next Big Thing, like Big Band in the 40's, Rock & Roll in the 50's, Punk in the late 70's, and Grunge in the 90's. I, for one, certainly appreciated the muscial virtuosity that seems to be absent of late.
Somehow...ca u g h t the public's collective ear...? Maybe that somehow was that this album lyrically and sonically stepped into space where no one had ever gone before, and we were all thrilled to come along for the ride, curious to see where we would end up. The right time for sure. That 69-74 period saw the established boundaries of popular/rock music disappear, and as an audience we were open, receptive, and supportive to almost anything. Creativity, rather than conformity, was the rule.
Saw them during first U.S. Tour, at Fillmore East

Where is the write up on the band ??
I only see the introduction ??
Lamest bio ever!! WTF! Very disappointin g Pandora.
K.C. your my heros!
mike2990798
somebody missed a chance to do a great bio
cowniew
Just mentioning the band itself. One of the greatest of all time. I was fortunate enough to see them twice in the early 80s.
maraudr1
Didnt Steve Hackett play with these guys at some point?
So here's a link to a really well done and quite complete bio of KC...and it's also by Bruce Eder?! I don't believe Pandora did him any favors by editing the substance right out of his apparent good work. Mr. Eders, apologies for my previous comments, Pandora's heavy-handed editing is not your fault. allmusic.com / a r t i s t / k i n g - c r i m s o n - m n 0 0 0 0 0 7 6 0 5 7
They deserve way better. i still go back to this band
Bio? What bio?
Pathetic bio; whoever wrote this obviously doesn't know who KC were and who was even in the band.
Don't tell me Bruno Mars-------- - - has better bio than this. Lets hire some real mature Rock Fans to do a better job than this.
