Mixing synth pop, shoegaze, and indie pop into a sound all their own, Ladytron formed in mid-1999. Keyboardists/programmers Daniel Hunt and Reuben Wu settled in Liverpool after a spate of traveling and DJ work in Japan. They began work on their first single, "He Took Her to a Movie," which was recorded for 50 pounds. With vocals by guest Lisa Eriksson, the release brought a wave of critical acclaim, which the band took advantage of with a tour throughout the continent before beginning work on their debut EP, 2000's Commodore Rock. They met Bulgarian Mira Aroyo that summer, who became their vocalist, while Helen Marnie, who sings and plays keyboards for the group, also joined them. The studio full-length 604 followed a year later, and garnered many positive reviews. 2002 saw the release of the more polished Light & Magic and the mix album Softcore Jukebox. The group returned in the summer of 2005 with the Sugar single, which heralded the rock edge of Ladytron's third album, Witching Hour. Extended Play, which featured remixes of Witching Hour's singles, arrived the following spring. Ladytron moved to Nettwerk for their fourth album, the harder-edged Velocifero, which they produced themselves. Their fifth album, 2011's Gravity the Seducer, returned them to their synth pop roots. ~ Stacia Proefrock, Rovi

Ladytron has consistently been one of my favorite artists for 11 years. Magical music.

Brought my 14 year-old recently adopted daughter to see Mira spin a DJ set at The Rave in Milwaukee last Friday night. What a blast, absolutely awesome! Mira was also gracious in meeting her afterward, this woman rocks...
I put Crystal Castles as my radio, ive gotten Muse,Metric, and Ladytron in that order without adding artist or anything like that. I belive its on the beats or type of music it similar related to.none of the "scence"stuff i dont belive. Thats pop-culture taking a hold of you.I even gottan coldplay and passion pit what are the odds of that? music genome project are the odds
i hadn't known that it would correlate by scene, since it uses some kind of computerized algorithm(s) based on actual audio or sonic similarities, though i don't see why it couldn't also use genre as something to compare against, though, apparently, new genres keep popping up over time, and some genres change over time. however, if it is a fairly well-known genre, then that could be useful, e.g., this band has punk influence vs this band has industrial influences.
as for why Ladytron and Metric aren't shown as related, I feel like Pandora groups things together on "scene" too much. Ladytron is sees as European eletropop and Metric is seen as Canadian indie rock, despite their similarities.
I've heard some bad stuff about their live shows, but regardless I love their last two albums. They are recording in the studio right now a fifth album.
What about comparisons to Metric? I had to look to see who this was, they sound so similar. I thought for sure Metric would be listed as a similar artist.
The Killers are not in the same arena as Ladytron as far as music or awesomeness, and by "Phoenix" do you mean the group "phoenix/NEBULIN"? Cuz that doesn't jive either if that's the case. Anyway, Ladytron is magnificent; I can see the resemblance to Goldfrapp, Royskopp, and some, but not all of Shiny Toy Guns' music. I'd be inclined to toss in telepopmusik and Imogen Heap for good measure as far as similar artists go. No matter how ya cut it, the music is brilliant!

The not-so-miraculous story behind the name: "Ladytron" is the name of an album and a song by ROXY MUSIC, released in 1972. Art rock, fashion, synthesizers and glam came together in Roxy Music. If you like bands like Ladytron, The Killers and Phoenix, look into the history.
