Its about their best friend who died and donated a organ to a baby so the baby can live on how sad. I love this song and sends shivers down my spine plus its awesome to play on guitar.
the confusion that was hers belongs now to the baby down the hall. Reminds me of giving birth, the wonder of this/the world becomes a part of the new life! I love it, I can't wait to have a baby and help him or her live the way....
its about a mother giving birth to a crack baby & then dieing, her mother, the granny, is left to raise what she'd been waiting for but not like this...
Powerful alliteration at its best! what a great song!

I first heard it on a tv show a long time ago. The show was about a guy waiting on death row for the electric chair while the attorney was trying to save him. very powerful. would like to see that show again.
Loved this song from the first. Always made me feel a touch more alive. Once I really started paying attention to the words, I liked it even more. Means more lately because a dear friend will be giving birth to her first child.

@Dreamscape Absolutley true. I actually stoped working and just listend to this song, and felt a strong chill go through my body, as if i was ready to explode burts a light bolt out of my self...
He wrote Lightning Crashes about the miracle of child birth and death. I don't exactly do this justice by saying it because I'm only limited to 500 characters, but the link of the quote of Ed explaining the meaning of the song is at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lightning_Crashes
MY BEST FRIEND WHO DIED A YEAR BEFORE THIS SONG CAME OUT.WE WERE WORKING ON THIS SONG. NOT THE LYRICS THE MUSIC THEN WHEN LIVE CAME OUT WITH THIS SONG I WAS BLOWN AWAY.JUST A REALLY WEIRD FEELING CAME OVER ME.LUV YOU & MISS JAMMING WITH YOU BUD!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But after a few more listens and looking at the lyrics...It's such a great song! It's kind of a cool way to look at life. And the lead singer totally makes the word "placenta" work.

what does this song mean? I don't really understand it.
Saw them at the house of blues in dallas. great show and a great sing-a-long with the audience. And after the show, reflected that while talking to the crowd they never uttered a single profanity as opposed to every other band in concert i have seen.
I was pretty sure it was "puts the glory unto high," but I guess this makes as much sense.

Classic. Saw these guys play a decade ago, a good show as I recall.
@jeff - theres a cool little button on pandora - it looks like an arrow, that when clicked on brings up a menu (OMG!) which lists "Why was this song selected?". Click it. Then click the other nifty button that looks like a thumbs down.

Has been a favorite of mine for the last 16 or so years. Not sure it is about the OKC fed building, but I know the lyrics that comes up for it are way off. Also might be worth noting there isnt a bad song on throwing copper.
beautiful, beautiful, beautiful song...and, i think the reason it would play on a pantera station is because of the repetive phrasing and the electric rock instrumentation that the music genome project has identified in this song.

funny. jeff is complaining that this song is playing on his pantera station, not his station on pandora. i think this is a fine song, but he is clearly right that it shouldn't play on a station made for pantera.
