when the moth/butterf l y landed on Gandalf's hand, then, it was the mothiest-loo k i n g butterfly I have ever seen. I don't remember any butterflies in the Hobbit, but I could be wrong.
It wasnt a moth, it was a pure white butterfly, which, in the hobbit movie, is shown to be Galadriel. Galadriel sends the eagles to take Gandalf out of Orthanc.

Yes, the movies give more attention to female characters, but at the expense of completely eliminating such characters as Glorfindel. When you take away those minor characters like that, you destroy a bit of the reality of the story. Stories with everything happening to and by the same handful of main characters just aren't as realistic as those where smaller characters contribute too.

AhhH! Run Frodo! Those aren't really Ringwraiths, they're Exam Wraiths! What's left of freshman who didn't study for their tests!!
Book was better, although Tolkien was misogynistic . Women did not get much attention, but the movies gave the few female characters more to do. Arwen is barely in the books, and the flight to Rivendale was Frodo alone on the horse.
Well.. It's not really Sauron per se.. It's the Black Riders that were trying to control him. Yes they are servants of Sauron but the Morgul Blade is different then control.. You slowly lose your grip on your humanity.. The sheer will power of Frodo allowed him not to fade into the Darkness. That and a sexy elf to help you doesn't hurt either.. around 2:00 is when Arwen pops in the picture.
You did not seriously think that a hobbit could contend with the will of Sauron, there are none that can =)
