Simply beautiful performance from Loreena.... She's added so very much to a childhood favorite poem with her beautiful interpretati o n and remarkable voice... Thank you again sweet Loreena!
i love how she puts puts poems to music! beautiful, but sad.
I love this music! It feels like a step centuries backward in time, when you'd be sitting in a countryside inn and the only entertainmen t is telling stories and singing songs...

Amazing and moving song.
True love at its finest
I read this for school last year... it was so sad but I love the song.
Haunting and beautiful. At first I didn't like to listen to it because the story is so tragic, but now I just hear the beauty of the poetry and music.

This is by far my favorite song. I love storytelling songs. This one is so beautifully tragic. XoxoxoX
Black eyed can mean someone with very dark blue or brown eyes. It's a poetic touch that has no bearing on biology.
Probably the greatest ghost story ever sung. :-)

The incomprehens i b l e part is "black-eyed. "
There was a movie based on it: From Wikipedia: "In 1951, the poem was used as the basis for a feature-leng t h Hollywood film of the same name, starring Philip Friend and Wanda Hendrix.<4> Noyes writes in his autobiograph y that he was pleasantly surprised by "the fact that in this picture, produced in Hollywood, the poem itself is used and followed with the most artistic care"

Love this song!

Where it says "the landlord's daughter", it's pretty plain she sang "the landlord's black-eyed daughter".

As usual, i enjoy all Loreena's great work.

Apparently I'm not the only one who was reading/memo r i z i n g this poem in 7th grade. I like the song!
Que noches....
my favorite poem when I was a young girl.
I hate this poem, but I love the song. I just wish the words were different. They bring back bad memories of 7th grade English.
Wow! What an idea to turn one of the best poems of all time into a song. I like it.

Growing up this was my favorite poem. I can't believe it was made into a song!
One of my absolute favorites. Thank you Ms. McKennitt.
My mum recited this when I was a wee one. This song reminds me of when my Aunt Brigid would sing in her magnificent voice (much like Loreena's) a Celtic lullaby.
Alfred Noyes wrote the poem "The Highwayman" and Loreena set it to music as she has also done with the Poem " The Lady of Shallott" By Afred Lord Tennyson. she does a fantastic job setting classic poems to music and I hope someday she will do it to some of Edgar Allan Poe's, "City Beneath the Sea" would lend itself to her styling.
