check this link to see the guy who wrote the song, not Garth, not Sting, and definitely not in the 1800's... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0XFHASLS6G8

Sting did not write this song... it's been around since the 1800's which last time I checked was a little before Sting was born... this is a beautiful version of the song though...
I have to say, that I thought the Country Version was always the best until I mistakenly picked this one. Wow, it rocks, and blows Garth Brooks out of the lineup!
This song was authored by Sting and was originally featured on his 1993 album Ten Summoner's Tales. Many other artists have covered it in the intervening years as can be witnessed in the comments below
I found him at last on the internet. His full name is Malachi Cush and his website is http://www.malachimad.com/. Unfortunately he is Irish and seldom performs in the US. He is gorgeous and well known in the UK for a show on BBC called Fame Academy. He has 4 albums out and I ordered them all. I could listen to him all day.
Pandora, don't you have more information about this wonderful-voiced artist?! I'm very glad to have met him here. He's gotten a powerful & beautiful voice & I simply love this song.Gimme more Malachi, dear Pandora!!!

That's because you already knew it had originally been done by a country singer. Malachi's version just sounds like a balad.
