Matchbook Romance

Matchbook Romance is a melodic hardcore unit from Poughkeepsie, NY. The band started in 1997 when bassist Ryan Kienle, vocalist/guitarist Andrew Jordan, and drummer Aaron Stern's band, Fizzlewink, added guitarist Ryan "Judas" DePaolo and became the Getaway. All computer-savvy, the bandmembers hit the Internet hard, designing their own website and using it for shameless promotion of their wildly emotional take on crashing, midtempo hardcore. The band gained exposure through listings on unsigned band sites like MP3.com, and eventually began playing to a growing audience throughout the Northeast.

Epitaph honcho Brett Gurewitz heard the Getaway's demo via punknews.org, got in touch with Jordan, and soon the bandmembers found themselves in California, signing a deal with the famous punk rock label. Legal issues encouraged the Getaway to become Matchbook Romance, Gurewitz volunteered to produce their debut EP, tours were arranged, and Joe Barresi (Weezer, Pennywise) was lined up to produce the band's eventual full-length. Not bad for a bunch of guys who had faith in MP3.com. The West for Wishing EP appeared in April of 2003 with their debut full-length, Stories and Alibis, surfacing five months later. Lots of touring helped the latter release sell upward of 200,000 copies, and a 2004 split with Motion City Soundtrack satisfied fans until the more ambitious Voices was issued in February 2006. The guys spent much of the year on the road, including summer dates opening for Yellowcard. However, by March 2007, it all came to a sudden end as Matchbook Romance announced it was going on an indefinite hiatus for unspecified reasons. ~ Johnny Loftus, Rovi

✌ I'm the monster. Love this. Follow me for a follow. ✌
Love this f#@$en song
one of the toughest band breakups of the 2000's... 1 great EP, 1 great full length... then mediocre hit and sent the band downhill. WHY DO BANDS HAVE TO F WITH A GOOD THING???
We are the monsters....
If these guys came back. Id make my day, year...... They were awesome! Stories and Alibis is got to be a top 10 album in my collection
FOR THOSE WHO THINK I'M WRONG: The name Matchbook Romance comes from the thirties and forties, where at bars, patrons would write their address on matchbooks and hand it to his/her suitor
For those of you thinking that MCR stole the name, YOU are WRONG. Mikey was at a bookstore and saw a book called ""Ecstasy: three tales of chemical romance."" Mikey wanted to make it his own and put 'my' on. He told Gerard immediately. Please make valid opinions, thank you.
West For Wishing! My very first exposure to Matchbook! ♥
Okay yeah thy definitely stole MCR's name because this band started in 1997 and MCR started in 2001. Makes sense. Yeah, I love MCR but matchbook romance started first.
its funny that they sound just like MCR and practically stole their name too... Super unoriginal f*g fest right here
West for wishing and Stories and Alibis were legit, Voices was garbage
Ever since I was little Matchbook Romance was always a favorite. Especially their song Monsters ^.^
I love this band, but the name... Matchbox 20 + MCR >_<
the greatest band everrrrrrrrr r r r r r r r r r r r r r r r r r r r r r r ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
wish this band still made music, My Mannequin Can Dance is amazing
Dont read this because it actually works. You will be kissed on the nearest Friday by the love of your life. Tomorrow will be the best day of your life. However if you don't post this you will die in 2 days. Now you've started reading so don't stop. This is so scary put this on atleast 5 songs in 143 minutes when done press f6 and your lover's name will appear on the screen in big letters this is so scary because it actually works!

sorry wonder if it works.

Matchbook Romance is an insanely good Alt band, especially for the era they came up in.

Holy s**t..i remember 5 cent deposit. :)
Personally i think it was great different yes....but it showed their broad range of ability lyrically and with their music....the music on voices was much more intricate and required more talent to play
Voices wasn't very good. This is my opinion along with plenty of others that were fans of theirs when they released west is for wishing. What hurt me the most is they completely changed their style from post hardcore/mel o d i c / p u n k to a darker emo style, similar to my chemical romance, although they have some good songs too. The rule in anything is if it isn't broken, don't fix it!
@xxxsurferxx x 4 2 0 if you think voices sucked ur nuts
Super excited to see these guys pop up in my Rise Against playlist. Really made my evening a little better.
oh god Poughkeepsie tapes coursing through my memory!
All you f**ks talking s**t are probably fat little ginger b**ches who wouldn't do s**t, so you sit around and eat and talk s**t. You def couldn't do anything close to what these guys have done.
wicked1044
yeah PK!

they bring me back to high school and college. god i feel so old when i think like this. they were super talented but pulled shady stuff before they signed their contract, dont remember the details but i think the guy that got kicked out went on to play in stretch arm strong
promise is still one of my favorite songs of all time

I remember when they were Fizzlewink and PJ was in the band. I'm sure they remember me. I was the girl that stayed at I believe at Judas's house with 5 cent deposit. They had a show the next day in CT. This was MANY years ago. I miss the band.
