Although I am a huge fan of St. Anger, Death Magnetic was a breath of fresh air compared to St. Anger. No more snareless snares. There's guitar solos on this one. The guitars are all in standard tuning (except All Nightmare Long, drop D.) Better vocals. The whole album seems faster paced. Metallica's really digging back to their roots and I love it. Too bad next album isn't coming until 2015 according to Lars.

About time they let Kirk rip it up again. Will they ever be "and justice for all" good again, not sure, this album is not there, but it's moving the right direction. If only they hadn't lost Cliff in the bus crash, his composition skills are yet to be matched by anyone in rock in my opinion.
I hear a lot of people comparing it to The End of the Line... yeah no I'm not hearing the similarities . For starters TWJYL has the kick@ss hook riff, and TEOTL has that slow, clean part, plus a good solo hook, etc, etc, etc.
