Michael Torke (born 1961) is a self-described "post-minimalist," a composer who builds upon the structure of minimalism, adding to it additional stratum drawn both from the classical tradition and pop music. Torke was still a student at Yale when his professional career broke out in the mid-1980s with works such as Color Music (1985-1989) and The Yellow Pages (1985). Torke has enjoyed major publishing and recording contracts and was commissioned to contribute the piece Javelin (1996) for the Olympics and Four Seasons (1999) for the millennium celebrations held by the Walt Disney Company. Torke's music is brightly colored, populist and pulsatingly rhythmic. ~ Uncle Dave Lewis , Rovi
