The Androids took their native Australia by storm in 2002 with the cheeky single "Do It With Madonna" and released their self-titled debut soon after through Festival Mushroom Records. But the band became an even hotter property when the taste-making Los Angeles pop station KIIS began spinning the song. Universal hastily secured the rights to the band and released The Androids domestically in April 2003. The Androids' strengths are the sugary vocal and guitar hooks of principal songwriter Tim Henwood (ex-Superjesus). Opener "Hey You" is processed punk, "Brand New Life" is a mid-tempo track with layers of harmony overdubs, and "Do It With Madonna" itself is the sort of pop ditty that Everclear's Art Alexakis would write. Later tracks like "Bored" and "Take It Too Far" feature some summery, good-time riffing. ~ Johnny Loftus, All Music Guide
