Hasn't someone written that memo yet about the whole album-titles-with-pretentiously-goofy-syntax thing being over? Mazzy Star foretold the trend with So Tonight That I Might See and I thought that Mewithoutyou had taken it to its dumbest extreme with Catch for Us the Foxes, but Ateriavia just proved me wrong. So can we quit now? And while we're at it, let's get rid of the dorky, overlong song titles too -- calling an instrumental "In Conclusion, I'm Not Big on Quizzes, but Come Crunch Time or When It Counts, I'll Be There" is probably a pretty funny in-joke for the band, but to the rest of us it just looks like sophomoric self-indulgence. Ditto for the songs called "Oh, You Must Have Mistaken John Elway for Someone Who Can't Throw a Vortex the Length of Two Football Fields" and "If I'm Correct, There Should Be a Song Around Here Somewhere. Oh Yeah, Here It Is!" (har har). The music isn't bad, really; it consists mostly of borderline hardcore shouting laid over moderately tuneful aggro guitars; you'll hear echoes of These Arms Are Snakes and Fairweather, and won't be surprised to learn that they've opened for the likes of Spitalfield and Alexisonfire. But the most distinctive thing about Ateriavia is their song titles, and that's never a good sign. ~ Rick Anderson, All Music Guide
