Chronicles (1967-1992)
About This Album
Spirit was one of the first bands to successfully fuse jazz and rock, and their recorded legacy (especially their Ode albums) certainly bears this out. This collection, which came hot on the heels of the Sony/Legacy Time Circle album, is a grouping of tapes that the late Randy California had been stockpiling since the band's inception in 1967. There are five tracks that comprise the band's original demo, but also several live and studio performances that feature California and the remains of Spirit in various '70s/'80s incarnations. While Time Circle is easily the best collection of Spirit's work, Chronicles is a wonderful and necessary album for any Spirit fanatic. ~ Matthew Greenwald, All Music Guide
