During its early-'90s heyday, few could have predicted the enduring resilience of the Euro-dance format, as artists like Sasha, the Vengaboys, and Aqua have, at different times, successfully crossed over from the clubs to the European pop charts. The latest "happy hardcore" sensation is 23-year-old Swede Jonas Altberg -- better known as Basshunter -- who achieved multi-platinum success in mainland Europe with his 2006 single "Boten Anna," and topped the U.K. and Irish charts in late 2007 with an English version of the same, "Now You're Gone." Now You're Gone: The Album is Basshunter's first English-language album, featuring English-language remakes of tracks from his second Swedish release, LOL <(^^,)>, as well as the Swedish originals "Boten Anna" and "Dota" (re-recorded as "All I Ever Wanted"). Not surprisingly, Now You're Gone: The Album is unashamedly formulaic. "Now You're Gone" recalls the O Zone's infectious hit "Dragostea Din Tei," complete with robotically altered vocal effects. "Dota" lifts the entire chorus melody from "Daddy DJ" right down to the last cadence, while "Please Don't Go" and duet "I Miss You" mine the Stock, Aitken & Waterman production style for all it's worth. Where Basshunter succeeds, and others fail, is that he's got a genuine ear for an unforgettable melody. And while everything past track four is essentially an inferior rehash of what's gone before, for 12 or 13 minutes Now You're Gone: The Album is pure pop bliss. ~ Dave Donnelly, All Music Guide
yeah basically to get people to like him he put English words that were like the crappy pop songs of today into his good songs about video games and stuff like that
i still like basshunter, but i lost a little respect for him when this came out
just because you aren't mainstream doesn't mean you aren't popular amongst some groups of people, and when you go mainstream you loose some respect amongst die-hard fans
i love the song now that your gone it is the new booming song in my school and every one listins to it and i know every word to all the songs you have created
p.s.you rock awsome album
Hunh, I only knew about "Now You're Gone" and didn't realize he put out an entire English remake of LOL<(^^,)> until Pandora started playing the remake of "DOTA". The tunes are still just as catchy, but it's sad that the awesome geeky Swedish lyrics seem to have been turned into generic love songs.
