Unforgettable: Son
About This Album
These tunes come from the prime of Beny Moré's career when he was leading his own orchestra that was one of the most celebrated in Cuban musical history. These sons are the early day progenitors of salsa and one of the great breakouts in the country's musical tradition. Though sons were often traditional in nature, Moré and his countrymen made them burning dance tunes full of celebration of love, lust, money, life and death drama, and of course, partying. Tracks like his own "Camarera del Amor" and "De la Rumba el Cha, Cha, Cha," are two fine examples, but there are also standards such as "Santiago de Cuba" by Ramon Cabrera and "El Cañonero" by Enrique Benitez to boot. This is a stellar collection with decent sound and a price to match. ~ Thom Jurek, All Music Guide
