About This Album
This often wistful and nostalgic set features pianist Bill Mays at his best. His style is modern post-bop, thoughtful and adventurous yet swinging. With alert playing from bassist Martin Wind and drummer Matt Wilson, Mays performs four standards, a variety of originals, and Red Mitchell's "I'm a Homebody," which he sings. The music hints in spots at Bill Evans, but Mays has long had his own original voice. This outing, an example of high-quality modern mainstream piano playing, is one of Bill Mays' best. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide
