Heaven And Hell
About This Album
Many had left Black Sabbath for dead at the dawn of the '80s, and with good reason -- the band's last few albums were not even close to their early classics, and original singer Ozzy Osbourne had just split from the band. But the Sabs had found a worthy replacement in former Elf and Rainbow singer Ronnie James Dio, and bounced back to issue their finest album since the early '70s, 1980's Heaven and Hell. The band sounds reborn and re-energized throughout. Several tracks easily rank among Sabbath's all-time best, such as the vicious album opener, "Neon Knights," the moody, mid-paced epic "Children of the Sea," and the title track, which features one of Tony Iommi 's best guitar riffs. With Heaven and Hell, Black Sabbath were obviously back in business. Unfortunately, the Dio-led version of the band would only record one more studio album before splitting up (although Dio would return briefly in the early '90s). One of Sabbath's finest records. ~ Greg Prato, All Music Guide

Good album...but not near one containing some of 'their all-time best'. I think this reviewer must have been doing ludes with Ozzy after writing something like that. The only classic Sab albums that this is better than are the last two, Technical Ecstasy and Never Say Die. Dio is a great singer, but a bit of a one-trick pony. I appreciate him for his longevity and numerous contribution s to Metal...but he's never done anything near as important (or as good) as the original Sabbath masterpieces !

to all the dio haters:
HE IS NOT OZZY. IT IS NOT FAIR TO EXPECT HIM TO BE OZZY, BUT OZZY, THOUGH I LOVE HIM EVER SO MUCH, WAS SOMETHING OF A F*CKING IDIOT IN HIS OWN WAY, MMKAY? WITH THE INTOXICATION AND THE DRUGS AND ALL THAT BADNESS... DIO WAS GOOD FOR SABBATH FOR THIS ALBUM. HE CAN SING. HE COULDN'T PULL OFF PARANOID IF HIS LIFE DEPENDED ON IT. also, bruce dickinson is reigning king of still-awesom e and that is final, merci beacoup |

OZZY RULES
AND IS THE BESTEST EVER BUT DIO IS OK AND I LIKE THIS ALBUM A LOT. |
Heaven and Hell was the last real black black sabbath album ever put out before the band fell to the hype of commurcializ a t i o n to real artistry.

I think Tunekeytx is referring to the other Sabbath vocalist, what's his name? uh... Martin... uh... Tony Martin. Now that's the Real Sammy from Sabbath.
And, couldn't agree more on the "outlandish" of the Heaven and Mob days. |
What's with the hatred for Dio? Ozzy is a good singer, but Dio sounds just as good as ever, and he blows Ozzy away vocally. I love Ozzy, though. On the Van Halen bit: Sammy Hagar is I think better than Roth but I like the Roth era VH much better. Someone below said Dio is hair metal? I don't even know how to respond to such stupidity. Ozzy had pouffed blond hair and stilleto (spelling?) heels in the mid 80's, fact. At least Dio did a new Sabbath album rather than a reality show.

Dio sucks, and if Jack Black would not have revived and endorsed him, he would be forgotten as he should have been. He's Sabbath's very own Sammy Hagar, and we all know how well that went.(Chicke n f o o t = gay). To say this is some of their best is outlandish and ridiculous. Hair metal sucks.

Love Children of the Sea.......Ye s Ronnie James can belt out a song, as well as Bruce Dickinson, and of course Rob Halford- remember awesome concerts in my early youth. Queensryche and Scorpians rule as well.
What a fantastic album.
"Ronnie James Dio, Bruce Dickinson, and Rob Halford are in a class of their own as vocalists." I think Geoff Tate belongs in there, but aside from that, 110% agree. |
c brooks.....u r so right.....se e n the same tour in northern va. judas priest is still hurting from that azz whipping
De plane... de plane! Anyone take a close look at this troll? Tony I. is getting his a** sued by Ozzy and the rest of the originals. I always knew he was a scumbag.
Not bad, but will never be as good as their first four albums with ozzy in the band.
Ronnie James Dio, Bruce Dickinson, and Rob Halford are in a class of their own as vocalists.
Heaven & Hell blew away Priest at the latest "Masters of Metal " tour. At least at Glen Hellen Regional Park.
apples & oranges., both versions of Sabbath were fantastic for their time. Heaven & Hell is one of the best albums ever but did not define a genre ( heavy metal )like the first album did.
Dio Sabbath for the win...New Album from this lineup to come out soon under band name Heaven and Hell. Yes!
Look dio is a much better singer, evryone knows ozzy isnt a GREAT singer, but hes a damn good one, that doesnt mean overall his solo works is awesome, the reason hes so damn awesome is his live preformences , but overall Dio is a much better singer, but im not saying better band (yes I am). Dio Sabbath>Ozzy Sabbath

in the top 3 on my all time SAB list, I freakin love 1.BLACK SABBATH, 2.PARANOID, 3.HEAVEN & HELL, 4.MASTER OF REALITY, DIO & OZZY ARE GREAT, BUT MY FAVES ARE IOMMI & BUTLER,,,, OZZY fit the songs well, but overall Dio has the better voice. Tony Martin is very good, but those seem like Iommi solo albums. Iommi's stuff with Glenn Hughes is very good

Listen to Ozzy nowadays, and then listen to Dio. Then tell me who the best singer is out of the two of them. Dio sounds just as good approaching 70 than he did on this album.
you are a f**king idiot jose defrancesco! ! ozzy is a hell better singer than dio and it is no qustion that roth is better than hagar so go and f**k yourself!!!
lets face it Dio is a better singer than Ozzy , but Sammy Hagar is also a better singer than David Lee Roth But Which version is better? Dimond Dave or Red Rocker Vanhalen? i make this comparison because its the same thing except Van hagar had more hit albulms than post Ozzy Sabbath i will say this was there last great albulm And better than Never say Die the last albulms they made with Ozzy but Blizzard of Ozz wuz 2 I am glad that ozzy went on to make great solo albulms
the highlight of this album is "die young" which for some reason isn't even mentioned in the review.
Neon nights didn't seem particularly "Vicious" to me, but overall its a good album. The title track and Children of the sea rock. still its not really the same as the classic Ozzy sabbath.
I remember my brother talking about when he went to that tour (Black and Blue)..this is a killer record
There's a movie called "Black and Blue", with Blue Oyster Cult and Sabbath on the Heaven and Hell tour together. Very impressive.
This albulm is The beginning of the end il Say sabbath ended after Mob Rules, But this albulm was Great both Heaven and Hell and Blizzard of Ozz were far better than never say die anything Sabbath or Ozzy did after that was Better im Glad that Sabbath parted there would never be this or all the Great ozzy albulms this Albulm re energized Sabbath the title Track and die young r great as any Pre Dio Songs

This album brought Black Sabbath to me. In the band I was in at the time of this album I was blown away by the sound and chord progressions . . . j u s t killer.
Sorry, but this album deserves two comments.... i f you dont believe me, get the LP and some quality equipment, grab your favorite beverage (or whatever), turn off the lights, turn off your cellphone, kick back and give the whole album a thourough listen at a good volume....If your not blown away your not human....It' s an absolute masterpiece. . . .
I grabbed this album off Uncle Eddie's album wall and played it on his phonograph, Once I heard the title track I was mesmerized.. . . M u s i c was forever changed for me, I believe this album to be one of the three best ever recorded, right alongside "Master of Puppets" and "Van Halen, van halen"
I'm sorry but this was the best alboum after ozzy. Parinoid was there best alboum.
It is hard to think of Black Sabbath without Ozzy, but 'Heaven and Hell' was a masterpiece. . .
I agree! Saw Heaven & Hell last yr with Ronnie James,Tony,G e e z e r , & Vinnie;None have lost thier touch. Completely and withoutadoub t kicked eveyones a** that was there that night! Also saw OZZY in 96 for his "farewell" tour;which he has had every yr since then! DIO may be WAAY up there, but isnt near giving up his reign
Best Black Sabbath album...As much as I like Ozzy, Dio can actually sing...
