About This Album
These two Jewish rappers are better known for the high-profile artists with whom they've been associated (they were discovered and signed by NWA's Eazy-E, while Crazy Town's Epic Mazur was once their DJ and producer) than for their music. But their 1993 debut, Future Profits, made a minor splash thanks to "Niggas and Jewz (Some Say Kikes)," a controversial collaboration with Eazy. Unfortunately, their mentor's death left them without a label, and nobody heard a peep from Blood of Abraham for the next seven years. Eyedollartree is, thankfully, a more mature effort, with a well-developed sociopolitical consciousness that gives them a progressive sort of appeal. Songs like "Know the Half" and "Only the Wise" show a knack for crafting memorable hooks, while "99ยข Lighter" features will.i.am of Black Eyed Peas, and "Omegratron" features Divine Styler and Kool Keith, placing their sound squarely in the alt rap scene. Unfortunately, the album was released just as the duo's new label, Atomic Pop, began experiencing financial difficulties, so few fans even knew Eyedollartree existed. Hopefully they won't have to wait another seven years for the next one. [Eyedollartree was reissued in 2005 with a bonus DVD featuring Blood of Abraham's award-winning short films and videos.] ~ Bret Love, All Music Guide
