This is one of the lesser entries put out by the European Classics label. Blue Lou Barker was a so-so singer who had the novelty hit "Don't You Make Me High"; all 21 of her prewar recordings are included on this CD. The more memorable moments are provided by the sidemen, which include trumpeters Red Allen and Charlie Shavers, clarinetist Buster Bailey, tenor saxophonist Chu Berry, and her husband, guitarist Danny Barker. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide

Is THIS LADY the inspiration for the great piano bar blues number, "True Blue Lu," which Tony Bennett sang so well on a now out of print early to mid-60's record album? What a great tune! Tony, bring it back! "She was gal, in love with a guy, she stuck to him, but didn't know why... angels still claim her, heaven did name her, True Blue Lu." I still weep inside, just remembering that one. Alas, it has gone the way of the piano bar itself.
