20 Best Of Bob Marley
About This Album
Bob Marley's pre-Island Records catalog is a mare's nest of titles and styles, and since the licensing of these tracks has been scattershot at best, the market has been flooded with scores of dubious releases that do little to clarify Marley's creative development. This one, called 20 Best of Bob Marley, is hardly essential, although the music is certainly great, being comprised of a mix of Leslie Kong and Lee "Scratch" Perry productions from 1970 and 1971, arguably a time when the Wailers were at the peak of their game. One wonders, though, if Marley would have ever wanted the Kong and Perry material to be mixed together like this. ~ Steve Leggett, All Music Guide
