About This Album
The late and very great Johnny Cunningham may no longer be a part of Celtic Fiddle Festival, but his spirit hovers directly over this album, recorded live in the U.S. At least for this disc, he's been replaced by La Bottine Souriante's André Brunet, who fits in easily with the lineup. As ever, the CD is an eclectic mix of tunes, beautifully and boldly played, with Brunet injecting a strong dose of the Quebecois into the Irish and Breton music, which roves far afield this time around. Ged Foley does a wonderful solo guitar job on a set of tunes that let him out of his supporting role for a few minutes. But it's the fiddles that are, quite rightly, the stars of the show, with Kevin Burke and Christian Lemaitre bringing experience to the party. Every track is a delight, and Cunningham is remembered specifically on his "Leaving Brittany." There's the inevitable nod to O'Carolan, but mostly the players dig below the surface for the material and present it in glittering, joyful fashion. More than an excellent live album or a remembrance, it's quite simply a great album, period. ~ Chris Nickson, All Music Guide
