This Woman's Work (1978-1990)
About This Album
Released in 1990, this long-awaited complete career retrospective on Kate Bush was an instant hit among serious fans, though its high cost -- owing to its being a British release -- put it out of the reach of many of the artist's American followers. Contained in this box set is every official recording that Bush ever released through EMI, starting with her first six albums, from The Kick Inside thru The Sensual World -- equally important, the first five of those CDs, representing Bush's output originally issued on LP, are the British versions, digitized from the first-generation UK master tapes, something that EMI-America never got around to doing (The Sensual World was a CD original and avoided that fate entirely). And their sound is spectacular, particularly in comparison to their US equivalents, which seem flat and compressed. The other two discs, entitled This Woman's Work 1 and This Woman's Work 2, will be the real focus of attention for most veteran fans, however; they're comprised of all of the odd unanthologized singles, B-sides, alternate takes and variant mixes of various Bush songs -- plus a handful of live tracks -- that have surfaced through various EMI releases across the dozen years represented.
