Almost Yesterday is an import-only career retrospective which focuses mainly on the band's singles from their first near-hit, "Unguarded Moment," up to 1990's Gold Afternoon Fix. The Church's progressive leanings would sometimes mar their albums, but this collection shows them in an especially good light as a singles act. The hefty import price tag is a bit prohibitive, but Almost Yesterday serves as a fine introduction to the band. ~ Chris Woodstra, All Music Guide
