Darren Aronofsky's second film Requiem for a Dream features a score from his Pi collaborator, former Pop Will Eat Itself vocalist/guitarist Clint Mansell. This time, Mansell blends his usual electronic/industrial leanings with brooding, evocative performances from the Kronos Quartet. As with Pi, Mansell's compositions play a large part in Requiem for a Dream, which is an adaptation of Hubert Selby's 1978 novel about the harrowing lives of four drug addicts. Impressively, Mansell's score manages to be appropriately dark and disturbing, as well as compulsively listenable. ~ Heather Phares, All Music Guide
if i remember correctly clint mansell is sampled/used or whatever very heavily on the two towers soundtrack. www.artistdirect.com has pretty comprehensive list of all his stuff
Part of "Cleaning Apartment" sounds a lot like music used in the trailer for Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (the part where Legolas slides down the stairs on the shield), except the LOTR version is faster paced. Is this coincidence? Did Clint Mansell help with the trailer music? Or was some copying involved? I've heard all of "Cleaning Apartment" on Pandora but only the samples of the rest of the songs above. I didn't hear that theme in any of the other samples.
They all have a very similar theme weaving through the soundtrack, yes. It's kind of like a musical story, using similar keys to tell the stories of very similar individuals. I haven't seen the movie yet, but the pieces are different yet very similar. It's a very amazing album however.
Of the three tracks that I have seen come up on my list, they all sound identical.... is the entire soundtrack score very similar, or is Pandora actually only playing the same track with different names?
