A Little Bit Of This, A Little Bit Of That
About This Album
Those who consider house music one-dimensional must give a serious listen to D-Mob's unpredictable and appropriately titled A Little Bit of This, A Little Bit of That. Britain's D-Mob is the brainchild of producer/mixer Dancin' Danny D, who keeps things consistently soulful while showing us that house comes in many forms. While we're reminded how abrasive and dissonant the rave-oriented house styles can be on "Trance Dance," and on the acid house-influenced "We Call It Acieed," the more melodic and accessible nature of "deep house" is evident on "C'Mon and Get My Love" and "That's The Way of the World" -- two very addictive club hits that feature the likeable dance diva Cathy Dennis and let us know that much house is essentially disco. Meanwhile, "It Is Time to Get Funky" and "Put Your Hands Together" exemplify the style called hip/house -- a blend of rap and house music that, although enjoyable, definitely has its limitations. From start to finish, this CD keeps listeners guessing. ~ Alex Henderson, All Music Guide
