This reissue of Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich's sophomore effort, If Music Be the Food of Love...Then Prepare for Indigestion (1968) contains the 12 tracks from the original long-player, as well as a whopping 14 bonus cuts, including 7"-only sides and rare stereo mixes. This title is the second in a series of three discs aimed at restoring the entire Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich catalog. Although Dave "Dee" Harman (guitar/vocals), Trevor "Dozy" Davies (bass), John "Beaky" Diamond (rhythm guitar), Michael "Mick" Wilson (drums), and Ian "Tich" Amey (lead guitar) failed to make much of an impression in the United States, their success throughout Europe is arguably more indicative of the combo's strong tunes and equally formidable execution. The group's style ranges from the rhythmically aggressive Brit-pop opener, "Bang," to the gentle and lyrical "All I Want" and the edgier proto-freakbeat of "Hideaway" and "Hands Off!" There are likewise slight excursions such as the distinctly Baroque-flavored and ultimately tongue-in-cheek "Loos of England" and the oddly Mediterranean "Bend It." Incidentally, the latter was banned in the States, where it wasn't getting any airplay to begin with. "Hair on My Chinny-Chin-Chin" is of note as a cover of Robert "Bumps" Blackwell's composition that is perhaps best known for Sam the Sham & the Pharaohs' hit reading. The bonus material rivals the main program, especially for collectors and hardcore enthusiasts. Among the goodies are both monaural and stereo single versions of "Save Me," "Touch Me, Touch Me," "Marina," "Okay!," and "He's a Raver." Not only is the audio quality and digital remastering top-shelf, the accompanying 12-page liner booklet is highlighted by a fascinating historical essay from legendary British pop music writer Chris Welch, as well as page upon page of photos of the band and assorted memorabilia. ~ Lindsay Planer, All Music Guide
