Considering that Demi Lovato's debut album Don't Forget appeared in the fall of 2008, just as Miley Cyrus was inching away from Hannah Montana and into more adult territory, it's hard not to think that Demi isn't being groomed as a replacement for Miley, but a better musical comparison for this Radio Disney queen is the Jonas Brothers. Lovato appeared in the Disney TV movie Rock Camp with the Brothers and toured with them prior to the release of Don't Forget, but the more crucial connection between the two camps is revealed in the album's credits: six of the 11 songs here were co-written the Jonas Brothers. Given this, it shouldn't come as a great surprise that Demi's music sounds a lot like the Brothers: it's bright, sugary, snappy power pop, fueled by big, fuzzy guitars and big, muscular hooks. Unlike the Brothers' 2008 album A Little Bit Longer, there is no attempt to sell Demi Lovato to an audience broader than tweens, so this is pure, unapologetic bubblegum, a fizzy rush of singalong hooks occasionally punctuated by a bit of sighing puppy love, which surfaces most strongly on "On the Line," an actual duet with the Jonas Brothers. This is fine fodder for a middle school slow dance, but what's really memorable about Don't Forget is its parade of urgent, insistent guitar pop -- the kind of pop that feels disposable but winds up sticking around longer than its more considered cousins. This kind of trashy fun was missing on A Little Bit Longer, so it's nice to find that it surfaces proudly on Don't Forget. It's pure pop for tween people. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide
Both of Demi's albums are the bomb! Disney keeps these singers from becoming tramps like Miley. Once they start getting edgy, they start doing immoral stuff. Demi is in a great place where her music isn't sickly sweet but she is still away from swears and encouragment of immoral actions. Demi-haters, realize that people that can balance good voices, good values, and a great sound should be left alone!
Without having to lift so much as a flippin' finger. It's pathetic. Remember why artists actually had to WORK to acheive their fame and fortune? Instead of simply climbing onto the gleaming silver platter propped up for them by A) Wealthy parents B)Bribed, big shot record companies or C) A lame a** song addressing a staple topic that America's youth will instantly swallow like a miracle pill.
I'm cynical now, but I've had it with all of these 'artists' rising out of thin air to instant fame.
You are so right Phoenix, I saw Katy sing live on television, and I instantly regretted it within the first few seconds. The only reason she's famous is because she has 'surface' quality'. All people care about are what's on the surface, if you look good, can masqurerade as a professional singer and weasle your way into the blinded arms of thousands of American tweens...bam! You're accepted unamiously into the music industry and instantly find yourself at the top of charts.
... are like Linkin Park, Evanescence, Three Days Grace, and (just for Phoenix) the artist, Britney Speares. sure, she got into a talent show to get a start, but the rest of the way, it was her hard work.
anyway, why is a gothic metal album here (The Dream)??? Pandora has lost their marbles BIG TIME!
ok, I didn't say any of the pop stars are ugly (but I refuse to give up my male singer crush next to the Jonas Brothers).
but this is your logic, toffeessister: A can sing; therefore, A is famous. um... WRONG!!!! I have a friend who has a wonderful voice and she is one of the least popular kids in my school! all the stars coondini mentioned have their careers because Disney made the wonderful steps to lead them to chart-topping hits. now, bands who worked hard and are famous...
look at Katy Perry she sucks and she's got all these fans.the b**ch can't sing or dance.and she ugly as hell.and what's really sad every time i see her on tv she reminds me of this untalented b**ch.
Well lookie there...I haven't seen the likes of miss toffeessister in quite some time. Last time we crossed paths, I was using the name "quakeman55." But in any case, I see that she is still just as ignorant as she was when I last saw her. She thinks that you have to be able to sing to be famous. But as folks like myself, Writer, Fangirl, Sempai and anyone else with any reasonable intelligence know, that couldn't be further from the truth. Why else do we have people like Demi, Miley Cyrus,
i like demi lovato! i dont get why everyone is dissing on her!! i mean sure her cover is a rip off paramore cover but hey she can probably sing way better than any of you dissing on her. so shut up. dont comment if you cant say anything nice. wow, losers.
This album supports karatekimber's statement that every Disney star gets to be a singer (though they really don't deserve that title) whether they have talent or not.
on the sugarcubes album "stick around for joy" it said this was similar. NO ITS NOT!!!!! the sugarcubes are awesome eighties rock and this album is whiny crud.
