As The Coil Unwinds
About This Album
The Destro claim that their sound is "A mixture of everything we grew up with here in Texas." And while the frantic riffing of Texas natives Pantera are an obvious influence, upon inspecting the group's 2007 offering, As the Coil Unwinds, styles that are usually not automatically associated with the locale -- hardcore, grindcore, etc. -- can also be detected in the sonic blender. Having only released EPs before, the Destro's first-ever full-length recording -- released via the Metal Blade subsidiary Ironclad Recordings (which is run by Unearth's Trevor Phipps) -- is a smorgasbord of venom-bubbling hate, which is sure to be appreciated by fans of the aforementioned extreme metal styles. Riffs, hollering, drum blasts, riffs, hollering, drum blasts (you get the idea) run rampant from beginning to end, especially on such soothing ditties as "Rivers Bottom" and the title track. Fun for the whole family! ~ Greg Prato, All Music Guide
