The first domestically available Dio anthology (following the 1994 German import Diamonds), Rhino's The Very Beast of Dio is jam-packed with 16 tracks taken from the band's seven Warner and Reprise albums (spanning the years 1983-1994). Which is to say, it's an excellent overview of the band's career, especially given the unevenness of some of their albums. Ronnie James Dio honed his metal chops singing lead in both Rainbow and Black Sabbath, and his own band is sort of a reflection of both: the sinister, medievally gothic elegance of the former, and the crushingly heavy, doom-laden riffs of the latter. That combination, plus solid songwriting, made Dio's best work some of the most invigorating British metal of the '80s, and those qualities are best concentrated here. ~ Steve Huey, All Music Guide
Pound for pound Dio contains the most evil spitting tallent.
He stands at about 64" tall. Coincidentally, 64 is the I.Q. of some of the people posting here.
I saw Dio with Deep Purple in a band called Elf.
I recently saw the Heaven & Hell tour and he was amazing and very consistent in his vocals.Google Ronnie James Dio and he has been singing forever.
Started back in the 1950's and still has a voice and stage prescense that goes so well with Iommi,Geezer, & Appice.Dio Rocks !
steven ward must be in high school. steven, do you remember hearing sabbath when they were introduced? i bet not. anyways if you like ozzy and not dio, you must think ozzy is so hot you want to have butt sex with him and maybe you went to a dio concert and asked ronnie if you could have butt sex with him and he said no, so that made you mad. Steven Ward, why do you want to have butt sex with Ozzy so bad. His butt probably has poop smeared since he is nearly a vegetable he probably cant wipe
Incredible live during the "Last in Line" tour. One of my top three, and I've seen them all! I too love Dio with Sabbath, better than with Ozzy actually (Sacrilege, I know, but it's my opinion!). Ozzy in the studio solo is better, Dio was better with Sabbath and as a live performer. When I saw Ozzy, he was wasted and sloppy, 1982.
"Best British Metal of the 80's"? I'm not sure what planet the above reviewer is from, but Dio is not British, nor are his band. If you're gonna make a living writing a review, do a little basic fact checking first. Having said that...Dio rocks.
