Southern Hospitality is a well-executed blend of old and new hard rock, mixing the band's nu-metal flavor from 2006's Scars Remain with a strong dose of Southern rock that fits better than anyone might expect. The result is a hybrid of melodic, '80s-style rock that, like most of Disciple's previous releases, fits to form the band's message. The guys seem at their prime rhythmically, as they churn out the beat-heavy bombast of "Phoenix Rising" and "321." The music is catchy, rootsy, passionate, and glamorous all at the same time. It is a treat for fans of Black Crowes-esque full-force rock that doesn't have to be overly produced to get its point across. ~ Jared Johnson, All Music Guide
I love Disciple. They started me on Christian metal.
How much I have loved them has fallen, but they sing it like the sing it. They rock hard in concerts, and it's the same thing, and that really makes a huge differnce when they can reproduce the songs in concert.
It's a shame when my favorite songs can't play song in concert because of the voice-over feedback thingy. It really makes the concert a bit of a downer but if God's presence is there it really is hard to be down, even when in tears.
I appreciate Disciple's "not overly produced" sound. I can expect to hear in concert what I hear in the recordings. Too many bands have a "produced" sound and can't dream of reproducing that at concerts and sound horrible. Disciple has proven it's longevity and willingness to change with the times to stay relevant (yet they haven't lost the most important Message).
Hey, they tour in this area quite a bit and sometimes sign stuff. Next time I see them I'll give them a heads up for you. Not sure, but I think a new album means another tour. They might head that way, and if you have to drive 3 or 4 hours, if their the main band, it's more than worth it. =D
Thought they would sound a little different with the new lineup, but I guess Brad played on most of the songs in the studio. The whole disc is good, but "Liar" is a standout both musically and lyrically, and "Savior" should get them airtime on some of the radio stations like the Fish. Waiting for them to tour in SoCal....
