Lost Texas Tapes, Vol. 1 is the first in a series of five albums cut at informal studio and live sessions in Houston by Sam "Lightnin'" Hopkins with producer Aubrey Mayhew. Most of these sides, which were never intended for commercial release, and never before appeared anywhere, add immeasurably to the body of Hopkins' work, capturing as they do some of Hopkins' best solo electric blues playing at a time when he was more active doing acoustic "folk-blues." ~ Bruce Eder, All Music Guide
