Although they were catching more flak from critics for an alleged obsession with socio-political commentary and quasi-mystical references, R&B audiences hadn't yet tired of Earth, Wind & Fire. This album marked a return to the music that the band liked the title track was a great description on the times at that point in history. I thought that they had returned to their roots by speaking about the things that they saw in the world.
1980 was a happy time in R&B music, for EWF and for me as a high school junior! This album had some great material. I think it might have been their last really solid album, when compared to the next 2 or 3 to follow.
When this album came out (And I do mean vinyl) it changed my life! I played this thing OUT. I remember being in the Hamptons, seeing my parents and all of us listening to this in the background. Good times, now a faded memory..
