About This Album
With Puerta Cerrada (1998) and Los Suenos Locos (2001) under his belt, DRO Atlantic artist Fito Cabrales has offered up yet another gem of a record, this one reaching number two on Spanish Billboard charts, and racking up $40,000 in sales after only two weeks on the market. The free-spirited, no-rules approach to songwriting seems to be working just fine for Fito & Fitipaldis. Claiming a broad range of influences including blues, rumba, Tex-Mex, flamenco, swing, pop and more is normally a sign that an artist can't find their own voice. In the case of Cabrales, it simply means that he's not willing to rule anything out. A shimmering mosaic of musical ideas offer a delightful surprise around every corner: Hawaiian steel guitars and record scratches, rockabilly riffs and Latin jazz piano lines, it's all there, and it all works beautifully. The songs themselves are sensitively, intelligently presented. With a number of instrumental compositions, which run the gamut from dark and rich to whimsical (sometimes on the same track) Fito & Fitipaldis truly transcend pop/rock classification. They are a group to be enjoyed today, and carefully watched for years to come. ~ Evan C. Gutierrez, All Music Guide
