L.A. punk rockers playing 1977-style, Brit-inspired punk, the Generators aren't half bad. Singer Doug Dagger has a nice manly sort of voice (though he might want to lose the corny moniker), and it goes well with the Generators' thick, crunchy guitar sound. From Rust to Ruin is a collection of material from the Generators' first two out of print albums, as well as a few singles, compilation tracks, and tunes from import releases, covering 1997-2000. They've also re-recorded a couple of old songs for From Rust to Ruin, "Hanoi 68" and "Tranquilized." You're either into this sort of retro-sounding punk rock, or you're not. If you're not already partial to this genre, the Generators may come off as hokey and unoriginal. But if bands like Stiff Little Fingers, Angelic Upstarts, and the Exploited make you want to spike up your Mohawk, then you'll probably find the Generators to be a better than average simulation of that era. And maybe even better than the modern-day versions of those bands, which may still be touring. ~ Adam Bregman, All Music Guide
