Veinte Anos: La Danza De La Chancaca
About This Album
Colombia's Grupo Niche celebrated their 20-year anniversary with the release of La Danza de la Chancaca, a double-disc collection including versions of many of their most famous hits. The rich, expansive digital sound throughout is a good pointer to the fact that many of these are not original versions, though the new performances are as good (and occasionally better) than the ones fans know. Exceptions come only with the light, barely audible synthesizer wash over two of their best -- "Una Aventura" and "Duele Más" -- but carrying the day even here are the bright harmonies on the former and some sparkling, intricate percussion for the latter. Another of Grupo Niche's biggest hits, "Gotas de Lluvia," suffers slightly with a synthetic "Balada Pop" version. Also, about half of the tracks are not famous at all, usually filler tracks from the mid- to-late '90s. It's obvious that La Danza de la Chancaca isn't the best Grupo Niche compilation, but it's still filled with solid music. ~ John Bush, All Music Guide
