The Weird Tapes, Vol. 8
About This Album
The eighth and final installment in the Weird Tapes series is simultaneously a major disappointment and an absolute joy. Disappointing is the fact that so much of the album's contents have been released in the past, including the busking-era tapes that push the titular time span back into the mid-'60s. Impressive, however, is the inclusion of three previously unreleased numbers that apparently date from the very early '70s, "Down on Her Knees," "Live and Let Live," and "Etchanatay," none of which would have disgraced any more conventional Hawkwind release. As usual with this series, the sound quality is not the greatest, but it is certainly good enough to glean the quality of the new material and perhaps even add it to your own "best-of" collection of early Hawkwind live cuts. ~ Dave Thompson, All Music Guide
