Iron Butterfly's 1968 debut album, Heavy, established the band's trademark sound, relying on plodding, heavy guitar riffs and thundering drums. Iron Butterfly were nearly the first heavy metal band. I think that Blue Cheer, Jimi Hendrix, and Cream beat them to it.

Iron butterfly,th e origanal heavy metal band ,this record is different though,this is the debut lp for this band and there were a few personell changes after this release,then lee dorman and eric brahn joined for the inagoddadavi d a lp,these musicians toured with the doors ,the jefferson airplaneand disbanded in 1971 after the iron butterfly 'ball 'lp and were one of the best live bands of the late 1960s , myspace/kent c r a w f o r d 2
